Installed Software

The following software packages are available in the CAE Lab. Packages available on Debian GNU/Linux systems are indicated with the letter L, packages on Solaris systems are indicated with the letter S, and packages available on Windows systems are indicated with the letter W.

ABAQUS 6.4-5 (LS, 2 seats of research version; W, 20 seats of teaching version)
Abaqus is a high-performance finite element analysis code that handles nonlinear problems. Users may also write their own FORTRAN subroutines to model special behaviors of exotic materials.
Absoft Pro 6.0 (W, 5 seats)
Absoft Pro includes compilers for C, C++, and FORTRAN (77, 90, and 95) and a graphical debugger.
ANSYS 8.0 (LSW, 25 seats)
The ANSYS Research Faculty/Student license handles a wide range of finite element analysis in solid mechanics, fluid dynamics, and multiphysics problems. A single seat of the SAT connector option enables easy access to solid models created in Autodesk's Mechanical Desktop software.
AutoCAD 2000, 2000i, 2002 (W)
AutoCAD is a non-parametric 2D and 3D computer aided design program with rudimentary solid modeling capabilities.
AutoCAD Mechanical 14.5 (W)
AutoCAD Mechanical is an AutoCAD derivative best suited for mechanical detail drawings.
Autodesk Inventor 4, 5 (W)
Inventor is a parametric 3D solid modeling program with no legacy AutoCAD code.
FEMLAB 2.3a (LSW)
FEMLAB is an addon package for MATLAB that does finite-element analyses. In addition to core FEMLAB, we also have the optional Chemical Engineering module.
Fluent 6.1.22 (LSW)
Fluent is a computational fluid dynamics package that performs flow modeling including unstructured finite-volume models. The Gambit pre- and post-processor is also available.
Forte University Edition 6.0u2 (S)
Includes compilers for C, C++, Fortran 77, Fortran 90, High-Performance Fortran, and Java. Includes autoparallelizing support and a graphical debugger.
GAMESS 20020624 (LSW)
General Atomic and Molecular Electronic Structure System: a quantum and computational chemistry analysis package.
GNU Compiler Collection 2.95 (LS)
Includes compilers for C, C++, and FORTRAN 77.
GNU Debugger 5.0cvs (L), 5.2 (S)
Allows debugging of C, C++, and FORTRAN code generated by GNU compilers.
LaTeX (LSW)
LaTeX is a typesetting system designed to produce high-quality documents for the math, science, and engineering disciplines.
Maple 9 (LSW)
Maple is a computer algebra system well-suited for symbolic calculations. It can also convert its results into equivalent Fortran or C code, or export its equations into LaTeX form.
MATLAB 6.5.1 (LSW)
MATLAB is described as "the language of technical computing". It is similar to a traditional programming language, but is specifically geared toward numerical or symbolic mathematical problems, including graphics. There are also many add-on toolboxes for MATLAB available on campus.
Mechanical Desktop 4, 5, 6 (W)
Mechanical Desktop is an offshoot of AutoCAD which provides increased parametric solid modeling capabilities.
Mentor Graphics EN2002.4 (S)
Integrated circuit design and analysis software. Also includes the ASIC Design Kit (ADK).
Microsoft Office 2000 (W)
Includes Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
MSC.Patran 2001r3 (LSW)
Solaris version includes support for exporting models to ANSYS and Abaqus. Windows version includes support for ANSYS only.
OpenOffice 1.0 (LS)
OpenOffice is a multi-platform office productivity suite. It includes the key desktop applications, such as a word processor, spreadsheet, presentation manager, and drawing program, with a user interface and feature set similar to other office suitesÂ’. Sophisticated and flexible, OpenOffice also works transparently with a variety of file formats, including those of Microsoft Office.
Portland Group Cluster Development Kit 4.0 (L, 2 seats)
A set of autoparallelizing C, C++, and FORTRAN (77, 90, and HPF) compilers that builds binaries optimized to take advantage of extra instructions in recent Pentium and Athlon processors. The CDK also allows users to run code on up to 16 CPUs at once.
Pro/ENGINEER 2001i2 (SW)
Pro/ENGINEER is a 3-dimensional parametric solid modeling package, including facilities for part and assembly design, sheet metal design, injection molding, and other features.
Pro/Mechanica 2001 (SW)
Pro/Mechanica is a simulation and analysis package closely tied to Pro/ENGINEER.
Tecplot 9.0-4 (LSW, 1 seat)
Tecplot is a general plotting and graphics program, particularly popular in computational fluid dynamics research.
TeXnicCenter 1 Beta 6.01 (W)
An integrated environment for technical writing using LaTeX.
Visual Studio 6.0 (W)
Includes Visual Basic and Visual C++.
