Connecting to the CAE Lab File Server (On-campus Mac OS X users)

The following instructions should help you to connect to the CAE Lab's central file server from other locations on campus, assuming Mac OS X is installed on the local computer.

Instructions

In Finder, select the Go menu, then the Connect to Server menu item.

Enter the following address into the dialog box:

afp://files.cae.tntech.edu/

After clicking the Connect button, a dialog box will pop up asking for your CAE Lab username and password. Enter them and click the Connect button.

A dialog box will pop up showing two network shares: one for your home directory, and another for your personal web space. Click on the one for your home directory and click the OK button.

After clicking the OK button, a network drive labeled Home Directory should appear on your desktop and open itself in Finder:

Using this network drive, you can copy files between your Macintosh and your CAE Lab account.

When you're done, you may disconnect the network connection by dragging the Home Directory disk icon to the trash can in the OS X Dock.

Notes

Avoid modifying any files on the file server from multiple systems at the same time.

Students with file space in the Engineering Workstation Laboratories can use the above instructions by changing the path to smb://ch302.cae.tntech.edu/users

Faculty and staff in the Mechanical Engineering department can connect to their departmental file space by changing the path to smb://ch302.cae.tntech.edu/me
