In the future, we'll have specific information for Microsoft Office users here, but for now, take the time to check out OpenOffice and LaTeX, two free software packages available in the CAE lab.

OpenOffice is a free office software package including word processing, spreadsheets, illustration, and presentations programs. It's similar to Microsoft Office, but runs on Unix systems as well as Windows. Currently, our only documentation on it shows how to get started with OpenOffice, but more information will follow.

LaTeX is a typesetting program freely available for Windows, Macintosh, Unix, and other platforms that specializes in technical documents. LaTeX enables authors to concentrate on the content of their document and worry less about its formatting. Many technical journals accept submissions in LaTeX format, including:
