Secure and Privacy-Preserving Cyber-Physical Systems: Software and Hardware Approaches


1- Information:


The site will be hosted in Tennessee Tech University (TTU), Cookeville, Tennessee.

The Summer 2019 site will be from June 3 to August 9.

Each participating undergraduate student will receive stipend of $5000 in addition to on-campus double occupancy housing (approximately $15,70), meals ($1,200), materials costs and a travel allowance ($600). The total is approximately $8,400.


2- Eligibility Requirements:

  1. U.S. Citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Electrical engineering, computer/software engineering, computer science, or any other related disciplines, or experience related to the project topics.
  3. A 3.25 or higher GPA.
  4. Must graduate after Sept. 2019.

3- Deadline: We will start processing the applications on March 1. Submitted applications after this date may also be considered if some positions are not filled.



4- Announcement of Awards: April 1, 2019.



5- Application:


An application will be considered when the following items are submitted:
  1. Please send the followings in a single pdf file named lastname_firstname_REU19.pdf to Dr. Mahmoud (mmahmoud@tntech.edu)

    • Application Form. [PDF].

    • Statement of purpose that covers four areas: Motivation, Achievement, Research Interests and Career Goals.
      Describes why the applicant is interested in the REU program, your relevant academic achievements, why he/she can be an exceptional candidate, and the career goals and research interests. (Format: One page maximum, 12pt font, standard margins)

    • A resume (at most two pages).

    • College transcript (unofficial transcript is acceptable).

  2. Two reference letters, submitted separately by each of two referees who can assess your academic abilities, academic accomplishments and motivation, work habits, potential as a researcher, and your ability to participate in and benefit from a research internship program. Letters should be emailed to Dr. Mahmoud (mmahmoud@tntech.edu). The email from the referees should have following subject line: REU_REF_lastname of the student

Selections will be based on a combination of research interests, academic qualifications, and faculty recommendations. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
